TOURIST DEVELOPMENT TAX (TDT) MONEY
Wes would like to see more of it stay local by supporting businesses in Okaloosa County that can utilize it for its intended purposes rather than it leaving our county. Wes believes that some of the TDT funds can be freed by privatizing the beautiful Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention Center; making it a “for profit” enterprise instead of a county subsidized liability.
Wes believes that we need to explore options to abolish the Mid-Bay Bridge tolls which will help the commuters within our county keep more of their hard-earned money.
As Okaloosa County continues to experience growth from our expanding military community and seasonal tourism, our infrastructure needs to be addressed across the county. Wes knows that the citizens of Okaloosa County needs traffic-oriented solutions and will work with the other commissioners, FDOT, The Okaloosa-Walton Transportation Planning Organization (TPO), and local municipal governments to help facilitate short and long-term solutions to our ever increasing traffic problems.
Wes will also advocate for the Brooks Bridge and Destin By-Pass being built to help alleviate traffic issues in Ft. Walton Beach and Destin. To learn more about Wes's plan for these projects, click here.
